Gérard Uféras started his creative path as a photojournalist, building up his portfolio of documentary photography, portraits, fashion series and advertising campaigns. In 1988 he started documenting the life behind the scenes of opera theatres, a journey of personal interest that took him all the way from Paris to Moscow. He has spent extended periods of time working with Opéra national de Paris and the Bolshoy Theatre of Moscow. Uféras had solo exhibitions in the European House of Photography and Hotel de Ville in Paris, the former having a record visitor turnaround of 60 000 people. Gérard Uféras likes in depth work when it comes to his subjects and considers publications in press, book publishing and exhibitions as complimentary mediums for the expression of his intimate vision of the subject.
